ALESSANDRO ROMANO – BIOGRAPHY

Born in Rome on July 26, 1944. An artist of international renown, educated in the art workshop according to the glorious Italian tradition, after a debut in painting, expressed in figurative sculpture his talent, with results of extraordinary plastic and dynamic strength. In his work the mythological and religious are combined with the anxieties of modernity, creating a both classic shape and new, impressive for movement and measurement.

From jewelry to monumental sculptures, through fountains, portals, sketches and extraordinary designs, you have an opportunity to see a real, extraordinary “rhapsody of beauty.” In 1985, with three painters, Alessandro Romano founded the New Italian Manner, a cultural movement that recovers the figure, permeating it with such conceptual suggestions to recieve enormous interest in Italy, in Europe, in the United States, Russia.

In March of 1986 he held his first personal exhibition in New York, for the extraordinary success of public and sales, was followed by a second in 1987.
In the gallery M. Schwarz, in Los Angeles, in 1989, held a major exhibition dedicated to the “New Italian Manner”.
is author of the monumental work of polychrome bronze, “The Shield of Achilles“, inspired by the eighteenth Iliad, by Homer. First work, acquired by the Italian President, Hon. Francesco Cossiga by the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome for the Quirinale palace in 1990. In 1991 he was called to be part of the prestigious National Academy of St. Luke, and is named Academic.
Also since 1991, the master Alessandro Romano is present at the International Permanent Sculpture Exhibition in Beaolieu-sur-Mer on the Cote d’Azur with great works.
In 1994 at the JF Kennedy International Airport, New York, was held a major exhibition of the master, that, given the consents received, was extended from three to six months.

For the Great Jubilee of 2000, has made “Mercury” a six meters polychrome bronze, located in the city court of Rome, in Clodius Square.
He is the author of the GREAT JUBILEE OF THE YEAR 2000 official coin, dedicated to “God the Father”, two versions in gold and silver.
On the occasion of the Great Jubilee of 2000 dedicated to the catechists and religion teachers, the 10th of December, he held, invited by the Holy See, a testimony intervention on Contemporary Sacred Art.
Of particular importance in the production of Sacred Art of the teacher Alessandro Romano are the achievements of portals for churches and basilicas, in which he, preferring big scenes every time enters deeply into the theological theme always to achieve extraordinary results for content and images.
In August of 2000, on behalf of the Diocese of Sorrento, has created, in the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel in Piano di Sorrento, the large triptych painted bronze portals six meters high “JANUA MM” dedicated to SS. Trinity.
For the Order of the Benedictines of Subiaco, in August of 2000 he placed, after having restructured the square, a large bronze sculpture polychrome dedicated to eighteen St. Benedict.
In June 2001, he built a large three-meter polychrome bronze figuring John XXIII. For the Easter of Holy Year 2001, he made a great Easter candle bronze for the church of Pietramontecorvino (Foggia.)

For the series called “The Texts of Consciousness”, of ART’E’ he illustrated the “Confessions” of St. Augustine, a prestigious art book in limited edition, with a sculpture on the cover and inside, 15 colored plates.

The year 2004 marks an extraordinary moment in the artistic life of the Roman master, is in fact on this date that he was commissioned the construction of four monumental sculptures in white Carrara marble, six meters high, to be placed in the niches of Michelangelo in the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican. After being blessed, were all placed in the niches 10,11,15 and 17, from SS Pope John Paul II in 2004 and S.S. Pope Benedict XVI in 2007 and in 2008.

For the Olympics, which were held in China in 2008, Alessandro Romano was called by the Chinese government, to represent the State at the Vatican “The 9th China Changchun International Sculpture Symposium”. A major exhibition of contemporary sculpture of works on site.

For the publisher VYDIA in the occasion of the two thousandth anniversary of the birth of St. Paul, illustrated “Paulus” a large volume, limited edition, dedicated to the Apostle of the Gentiles, with a sculpture on the cover and 25 color plates
In December of 2008 in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls are exposed all the original drawings of “Paulus”.
In 2008 he represented the Italian Excellencies, in the Principality of Monaco.

FAO

In October 2011 he created and placed on behalf of FAO, in front of the new Ministry of Health in the EUR in Rome, a big “obelisk in bronze” polychrome that enhances and commemorates the extraordinary victory, on VEAL PLAGUE.
hE Is planning the creation of an international art workshop, to convey the enormous wealth of experience acquired by the Master over the years to young talents interested in the knowledge of the secrets of contemporary sculpture.

For the publisher ARCODEX he made a medal, 70 mm. coined from the Mint, where the master gives us two images of extraordinary effectiveness, that allow us to see the story of St. Pius in a new way, very true to reality.

S. CAMILLO DE LELLIS

In October 2013, after winning an international competition, has created and placed in the church of the Madeleine in the Pantheon in Rome, a large bronze monument which contains the relics and the statue of St. Camillus de Lellis .
